“Happy Together” an Able Arts Work Mini Opera
What it is
Happy Together is a mini-opera created by over 20 students with disabilities, 8 music therapists, and one professional classical composer.
The Process
In September 2018, Able Arts Work students worked with Melody Chen, a professional composer, to write the music to their own opera, making creative decisions in all parts of the music.
From October through December, we rehearsed the music, built the costumes and props, and added several professional classical musicians to play in the pit orchestra.
On Friday, December 14th, the opera was performed in the main lobby of WeWork, in Downtown Long Beach.
